Hailing from a family of profound interest in music, he started his carrier in this line at his early age itself. It is his father’s elder brother Shri. O. Damodaran who is very fond of music has encouraged and brought him in this line on understanding his enthusiastic activities and interest in music at his very young age.

Learnt the art of playing Mridangam under eminent tutelage of eminent Gurus. He was a devoted student of Mangudi Sri R. Durai Raja Iyer (late) who was a veteran in the art of Dancing. With the teaching and training of his Guru, he has learnt the intricacies of Mridanga naadam with reference to Dance Adavus and jathi patterns and has now attained proficiency in doing Nattuvangam. He excels in bringing out different Jathi Varieties for Dance and has become very eminent in rendering Nattuvangam.

Besides his higher academic qualifications i.e., B.Sc., & M.A., he has also learnt the art of playing Violin under the teachings of vidwan Sri. B.K. Viswanatha Sarma and has been awarded diploma in violin by the university of Chennai. By learning more number of Kritis / Keertanas & padams under the teachings of other Gurus (Sri. S.V. Narasimhalu, Polagam Sri. A.K. Sambasivam etc., ), he started giving accompaniments to the vocalists and playing solo concerts in violin. By his instrumental knowledge in Mridangam and Violin, He developed the art of singing also with the guidance of eminent Gurus.

With his profound knowledge in music and musical instruments, he started doing research works and entered into an analytical study on Naadam, Natanam and percussion instruments. His research work resulted in a new invention called Mridanga Veena, a Sruti –Swara- Laya Vaadyam as the magazine “Sruti” calls it. With the ideas given by his Guru and with the advice of Sangeetha vidwan Semmengudi Sir. R. Sreenivasa Iyer, he has also developed the art of playing “Jalatharangam”  i.e., play on bowls filled with water at certain level according to Sruti / Swaras.

He has extended his knowledge in music in the art of writing lyrics of bhakthi rasaas and for Dance performances also. He is very much talented in setting Jathiswaras, Varnam with attractive suitable jathi varieties and also Sabdam & Thillanas

His interest in music knew no bounds. In spite of his partial permanent disability caused by fatal head injury in an accident and subsequent serious illness, he continues his research works and dwells deep in this line so that others may be benefited by his out comings and achievements.
